Motor vehicle title applications, 1973-[ongoing].

Each motor vehicle manufactured in 1975 and all subsequent years must have a Certificate of Title issued by the Dept. of Revenue before a motor vehicle license plate can be obtained. As a designated agent of the Dept. of Revenue, the probate judge can provide motor vehicle title applications (see Ala. Code, 32-8-32 through 32-8-35 [1975]). Upon completion of the application, a copy is sent to the Dept. of Revenue. One copy is the applicant's and a copy is retained by the probate office. Information on the application includes a description of the vehicle, information about the owner and lienholder, information about the seller, signtures, and dates. This record began in 1973 and continues to the present.
